Prologue 1.3

The convoy set out and headed towards the highway. Adelina held Alex to look out the window, the desert scenery passing by in a blur. A motorcycle flew past them and Alex was startled by the roar of the engine. About five minutes passed and the radio Kelile had chirped, a voice alerting them to an accident up ahead.

“Probably the jackass on the motorcycle,” muttered the driver. They came to a halt as traffic stopped and a slow crawl began.

“I don't like this,” Kelile muttered as he grabbed his radio and directed them to take the next exit. The cars all made their way to the correct lane and took the following exit. They followed the curve of the road and pulled into the next gas station they saw.

“I’ll be just a moment,” Kelile said as he stepped out of the vehicle. As he walked off to meet with another guard Alan and Adelina watched. He stood in front of the fourth vehicle of the convoy with a nervous looking young man.

“Kelile must be laying into him,” Alan chuckled.

“He does look scared doesn't he?” Adelina replied with a smile caressing her lips. “I hope he isn't being too harsh, it is not like he can control the traffic.” Adelina jumped as a scream sounded in the distance.

“STOP THAT TRUCK!” Kelile screamed pointing at a dump truck speeding towards the station. Adelina looked at Alan dread in her eyes as she clutched Alex tighter. The nervous looking lad ran away from the car he was next to as Kelile drew his weapon and began to fire.

“Screw this.” Kelile muttered to himself. He holstered his gun and crossed his arms in an X in front of him then dropped his hands fists balled at his sides. His fists erupted in a glow so bright it was almost white. He opened his hands and the ground before him cracked. The crack raced towards the truck. He clasped his hands together and a slab of thick rock burst up from the ground. The truck screeched its breaks but it wasn't enough and it slammed into the wall. The wall shook and cracked with the force of the hit. Kelile placed his hands together in front of him and slowly rotated his right hand until his fingers pointed towards the ground. The slab of rock slowly subsided revealing what was left of the front of the truck.

A few members of the guard raced, guns drawn, towards the driver side of the truck. The older woman opened the door and checked the driver for a pulse. After a moment she shook her head that there was nothing.

“Maria search him and the cab for anything that could be of use in identifying him,” Kelile ordered, “this was not random.”

“Yes sir,” Maria replied and she began looking through his pockets.

A loud BANG filled the air, but before anyone could react the dump truck exploded killing Maria and the other guards that approached instantly.

“GET DOWN!” Kelile roared, “Protect the King and Queen” he ordered pointing to a group of five guards by the first vehicle as he ran towards the direction that the rocket came from. “The rest of you with me, Power up!”

Myles ran to the car with Alan, Adelina, and Alex, opened the door and ordered “Come with me.” They scrambled out of the car, Adelina clutching Alex. “You three barricade now.” The three he pointed at instantly crossed their arms in front of them in an X and dropped to their sides, their hands glowing. They worked together moving the ground and shaping it to form a shield of rock 5ft thick around them.

Adelina looked at Alan with worry in her eyes.

“I know love,” he said. “It will..,” he started but was interrupted by gunfire and yelling.

“Henry! Report,” Myles ordered the man next to him. “Majesties please be in the center so that we can surround you.” He gestured for them to shift. Henry flipped his hand and a block moved from the wall. He stepped onto it and moved his hands slowly upwards. As he did the rock moved up. He looked around, “I don’t see anything,” he reported back to Myles. “I can hear them, but they are not in sight.”

“Damnit,” Myles muttered. “We are sitting ducks here like this. I don't like it.” The gunfire and yelling continued a few more minutes.

“Anything?” Myles asked, looking at Henry.

“Nothing that I can see Sir,” he said. “Wait, someone is running this way.”

  “Get down then,” Myles stated.

“It's Anthony sir, they must ha..” a gunshot rang and Henry collapsed.

Alex screeched and Adelina gripped him tighter, turning him away from Henry’s body.

“Oh no,” Myles whispered, “Everyone get ready!” he exclaimed. The others looked around grim expressions across their faces.

“Nothing gets beyond these walls. We protect the King and Queen until our last breath if needed!” Myles balled his fists at his sides and closed his eyes. His hands erupted in a golden light brighter than the others. He opened his eyes, determination radiating from them.

“M..Myles?” asked a shaky voice from the other side of the wall.

“Anthony?!” Myles Answered. “What’s going on out there? How many are left?”

“Myles, you can all live. Just give us the royal family.” Anthony answered.
