Chapter 11: Walking the Web

Nolaka took a shallow breath, staring straight ahead. It seemed he had come to another crucial moment in the web of life. It was something he had grown used to, but it never made it any easier. Nolaka's sight had once again come to overlay with the web of life naturally. A strange sense of wonder at it played through his mind. Few shamans of his tribe could harmonize with the web without the aid of rituals. Normally, the tribe would celebrate this feat. But like so many other things, it had been bitter for Nolaka. He could now see how each action he made could influence things, even his minor acts of reflection on the web knots themselves shifted things down the winding path of the web. Fighting back the flux of information that came with the ability to see the ever-changing flow of the web, Nolaka took another shallow breath. He had to be calm. He had to think and live in the moment. This was why few could walk the web and why the hawk spirit hunted and guarded against those that learned the ability.

  Stolen story; please report.

Nolaka found his vision shifting through down to the first mortal plane, hiding the sight of the web once more. Grabbing his hunting and ritual supplies. Nolaka needed space away from the suffocating cluster of knots that existed in the village. Disappearing into the dense foliage of the jungle around the village and for a time, he followed the path that many of his tribe trod before coming to a bend in the path and stepping off it. He knew of only one place he could practice walking the web in peace for a half a day's walk. There was a cave dedicated to the patron of his tribe, the wolf spirit. Many believed it to be the original shrine of his people, though few traveled to it anymore because of the distance from their current location.
