Chapter 2: Name

Slowly, the void lifted and sensation began to return to Nayr. He could feel the ground beneath himself and soft cloth his head was resting on. As he stirred, He heard a voice.

Hello Vanguard, I am Amara your personal AI.

Nayr's eyes shot open and he tried to push himself only for a pair of soft but firm hands to keep him down.

"It's ok Nayr, its ok. your Safe now"

Are you feeling ok? My research suggests you are familiar with Vanguard Vivilan Ardia. She took it upon herself to purchase and use a Class III Nano-Regenerative Suite to keep you alive. Her own AI attempted to access your augs until realizing that you were now a Vanguard and backed off.

"You listening to your AI? Its ok, take your time, its a big change and your introduction to the world has been… volatile. Take as much time as you need." Viv said, her voice soft and reassuring.

Nayr pushed himself up so that he was sitting up, pushing past Viv's attempts at keeping him down.

  "Um, Hi?" Nayr said.

  Hello Nayr. How are you?

The AI said, her voice motherly sounding.

"I'm fine, I think." Nayr said to both Amara and Viv. Turning to look at Viv he asked. "What happened?"

Viv smiled. "That's my line." You had already killed the model four when I got here. I just bought something to keep you alive and regrow some of your organs. What did happen?" She asked him

Nayr took a moment, but told her what happened. He didn't take to long, mostly just giving her the highlights, not that much had happened.

When he was done, Viv winced but looked a bit impressed. "That is a horrible way of becoming a Samurai. Now, what do you want to do? If you don't want to continue fighting, I can happily get you out of the incursion zone and set up somewhere safe. If you do want to pursue being a samurai, then we should get you out there and hunting. It would have been best for you to have gotten started right away as that's when you will find a multitude of the lower tier models. Since that time period has past, you will have to be much more careful but should still be able to get plenty of points."

Nayr took a moment before looking Viv in the eyes. "I want to fight them. I" He paused for a second before continuing, his confidence wavering slightly. "I want to fight along side you."

At his words, Viv gave him a soft and genuine smile. "Then if you want that, then you can do it, once you have managed get stronger." A teasing smile spread across her lips. "But I won't be slowing down so you better not take too long to catch up."

Clapping her hands, Viv laughed. "If you've decided to fight the Antithesis then you will need a Samurai name. Hmm, what about Pup? I'm Artemis and you can be my hunting pup." Viv said, her eyes sparkling with mirth as she suggested a name Nayr knew she wasn't serious about. "You can be all wolf and tracking themed. You can at some wolf ears to enhance your senses and a tail just because."

Giggles began to escape from her mouth as Nayr's expression turned into a disgruntled glare.

"Ok, ok, so not Pup. What about Precious?" Nayr's refusal to acknowledge her suggestion was answer enough. "Ok, I'll give you a real suggestion. Hmm, how about Book Worm?" She asked with a shrug. "I don't have much else. I'm bad at naming things."

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Nayr opened his mouth to object but found himself pausing as his eyes landed on the cover of one of his books. A man standing in front of a large, eastern style dragon, his spear raised ready to strike it down as lightning escaped out of its mouth. Nayr found himself getting some ideas.

"Amara, do you have anything that would fit the theme of that?" He asked, focused his augs on the cover.

I do have something. Class I Leng She technologies. The Leng She are a people remarkably similar to myths of your worlds eastern dragons. They live on a ocean, cavern planet that positioned in a portion of space that technically shouldn't be able to support life 90% of the time, only occasionally dipping in and out of the goldilocks zone. It just so happened that some extremely hardy plants managed to survive and adjusted their planets atmosphere and ecology just enough to support life. This catalogue has a large variety of items that should be able to fit within a variety of situation. Thought, most of its weaponry is cryonic based.

"What about Book Wyrm?" Nayr asked Viv.

"That's what I just said?" Viv asked, her voice conveying confusion. Then, her eyes lit up. "Oh, I see. Yes you can up with the idea for the name Book Worm." Viv's voice was filled with amusement. "You came up with the idea all on your own."

"No, not Book Worm, Book Wyrm." Nayr said while typing it out and sending the spelling to Viv over his augs. "Wyrms are a form of lesser draconic creatures. Kind like how dogs are a different type of Canine. Just like wolves are often seen as a superior canine. Dragons are often seen as a superior draconic creature."

"Huh" Viv said. "Yeah, if you focus on catalogues that fit that theme that's not a bad name. I've certainly heard of worse. Now for the next thing. If your going to be a samurai I'm not going to sit around and baby sit you. I'll send some drones around in a quick sweep and make sure there aren't any double digit models around here. But if a few million model 1s are around then that's on you to kill as many as you can and then retreat. Though I will give you some time to buy some stuff before you get moving if you'd like."

Nayr nodded his head, not in the least surprised about anything she's said and agreeing that he couldn't grow if he had her hovering over his shoulder, ready intercede at a moments notice. "Give me a moment to buy some stuff." Turning his attention away from his girlfriend, He resumed talking with Amara.

"How many points do I have?"

You have 115 points. The Catalogue will cost you 100 points. There is a certain handgun I have in mind that I think would be a good starting point for 10 points if you want to go with this catalogue.

Nayr thought about it for a minute before nodding. "Go with that one. and buy the gun."

A moment later, a small box appeared in front of him. Opening it up he found something that looked adjacent to a small handgun. It was silver, white and grey metal with glowing light blue bits. The barrel was incredibly small with a larger crystalline structure at the base. Inside of that portion were a dozen or so small pellets.

This is the Frost Bite. It fires small pellets filled with a hyper cold liquid. Upon impacting the target they break apart, releasing the liquid into the body of whatever you hit.

Nayr nodded along to Amara had said, definitely happy with the purchase. Picking it up Nayr got a feel for the gun. It was very light, and there wasn't a slide so he wouldn't have to worry about it coming back and blowing off a portion of his hand. Thought that was only really a problem in older models.

"How do I reload it and how many pellets can it hold?"

Amara highlighted a portion of the crystalline structure.

This portion folds back, allowing you to insert the pellets. It can hold a dozen at once and it costs 2 points per dozen pellets.

  "Get me a single reload."

A small tub with a narrow tip appeared. A moment later Amara explained its strange look.

This is designed for easy reload. Insert the narrow end into where you reload it and the pellets will be loaded keeping any from spilling out and removing a lot of hassle.

Nayr nodded, understanding what she meant having shot airsoft guns before.

"Anything else I need to do?" Nayr asked Viv and only got a shrug in response.

"That's up to you to figure out." Viv said mysteriously with a mischievous smile. "But there isn't much more you can do. At least not until you have more points."

Nayr nodded and pushed himself up. There was work to be done. Glancing down at his books, he frowned and as if reading his mind, Viv laughed.

"Don't worry about your books, I'll take care of them."

With his concerns ameliorated, Nayr left the library. As he did, he heard Amara's motherly voice chuckling in his head.

She's cute, and she really likes you.

Not expecting that, Nayr tripped, right into the muzzle of a Model 3.
