Chapter 28 Seeing Beyond - Conquest

  Chapter 28

  Seeing Beyond - Conquest

The night was going to be dark, and Conquest gave one order set up a large fire, then he walked off. Stars were beginning to shine above the clearing where they set up camp for the night. Conquest needed to look up and feel the vastness of the world, yet the fire was needed. Conquest didn't want too much darkness. He moved off deeper into the woods to be alone. One could typically hear all kinds of animals in this forest before they started their work. Yet, even this far away, there was very little noise. As he stood there in the darkness, there was the sound of insects, but even they seemed quiet. After a minute, he heard a small bird, but anything larger had been acquired or had moved.

Yes, this suited him far better than standing around the others. The vastness of the sky had always made him feel alone, yet Conquest had the feeling somebody might be watching him. He knew that no one from the Forest of Animals would be here. The only person he had to worry about was that otter, and he was never going to get away. Soon, it wouldn't matter. He would be victorious.

Darkness had always brought him peace, but as they looked around, he was reminded that now, darkness brought him no peace. The darkness was a reminder of that other presence that always seemed to be with him. It was that oily darkness had touched his soul. None of the others felt it like hin he was sure. There was Strom, Conquest was certain that he had felt it, but Storm was gone, dead by now. A smile crossed the gorilla's face. Of all his followers, Storm was the one he feared might challenge him. Now, because of the sandstorm storm was no longer a threat. Ironic Conquest thought that a storm killed Storm.

There was a time when Conquest had peace; now it was gone forever, but it was worth it. He had a plan that would defeat any army the Forest of Animals could raise. He had a promise that he would get all that he deserved. He would rule the Forest. The gorillas were strong. They had the right to rule. Birds, Tortoises, Otters and even Elephants had no right to rule over them. Gorillas didn't need a voice in the ruling body of the Forest; they needed to be the only voice. Now his voice would rule for life.

Truth was, Conquest didn't want gorillas to rule. He wanted to make the rules for everyone. He wanted to be in control. And now he would be. Yet, something was bothering him, that presence. It wasn't the creator, Conquest was certain of that. Turned his eyes this way and that, looking for the presence.

It was then that I, Tim Lee, the seer, had an overwhelming fear. Did he know he was being watched by me?

A moment, I dropped my pen and moved back away from his table. The vision hadn't gone, and terror grasped his heart. Never in all my years had anyone known I was there. Yet there was something, something evil had touched Conquest. At that moment, Conquest could see through the vale of the worlds and saw me.

The power of this creature terrified me. The hatred I saw in him for everyone else was like a wave of the sea. I saw his resolve.

"No one will stop me, even the creator himself can't stop me," Conquest growled through gritted teeth.

Then the vision ended for Conquest, and it dimmed for me, and then finally broke completely.

I walked towards my table, picking my pin up from the floor. I straightened up and rubbed his hand over my head. The hood I wore had fallen back, and my bald head was there for anyone to see, but here no one could. A smile crossed my face even if my heart was still racing. I knew two things deep in my bones: Conquest's power to see across the worlds was broken, and his words to me, that even the Creator couldn't stop him, had been a lie.
