DMS Chapter 18
Because of his experiences as a dungeon miner slave for more than two years, the instinct of immediately kowtowing and making sure that his face was dirty and bleeding was ingrained in Flinx. He had to fight not to exhibit such shameful behavior in front of the lady mayor. He thought that he had already started his journey towards healing, but his fear and his instinct made him realize that he was still extremely broken.
“I’m not a powerful mage, Lady Beldor. I just knew a few spells, and one of them is an illusion spell that I used to entertain the town’s children.”
By the lady’s request, Flinx then cast his Minor Illusion spell. After observing his spells, the lady mage then asked him how he arrived at their town. Flinx reiterated his story that he was accidentally transported to this place and that Anuel, the old priest, was kind enough to teach him the local language.
The mayor’s wife then asked what his next plan would be, and Flinx candidly informed the lady mage that he planned to join the Adventurers’ Guild and fight the monsters in the forest so he could gather the resources that he would need to increase his power. He told the lady that he wanted to grow in power so he could return home.
“To achieve that goal, once you have enough resources, you would need to go to the capital since that’s the only place that could help you grow,” The lady said, and Flinx simply nodded.
After a few more inconsequential conversations, the lady mayor left. More than likely, the lady just wanted to check if he was someone dangerous. Flinx didn’t know what conclusions the lady mayor arrived at, but he felt that they had concluded that he was someone not dangerous enough to be guarded against, since he didn’t notice any changes. He believed that if the lady mayor found him somewhat dangerous, there would be guards or spies nearby. Or maybe those thoughts were just products of his imagination that came from watching or reading Earth’s media.
The next day, the second mage of the town visited him. It was the guild leader of the Adventurer Guild. Basically, the man’s intention was the same as the lady mayor's: finding out if he was someone who needed to be guarded against. When Flinx expressed his intention that once he was used to the local environment and language, he would join the guild and go into the forest to kill monsters, the guild leader became somewhat amenable towards him.
After another week, Flinx knew that he had learned enough of the local language that he should start his plan of killing monsters, but he was feeling lazy until one night, the forum thread that had been silent for weeks was suddenly bombarded by responses from his fellow Earthlings who were enslaved by the wizards.
Flinx started crying when he saw that not all of his colleagues were killed. Apparently, some of the wizards put around 50 of them in some sort of suspended animation for weeks, and they were only awakened that day.
They were in a brand new mine, and the work of mining the first level of the dungeon started again. The hateful wizards also started summoning Earthlings again, and everyone knew that before the week ended, their number would climb up. The 50 surviving Earthlings would be the veteran slaves who would teach the newly summoned Earthlings the process.

The problem was, the wizards became much crueler compared to before. Some of the Earthlings admitted that if the wizards’ behavior continued, they probably wouldn’t be able to last long.
After Flinx calmed himself, he thought of how he would respond. At first, he thought of blurting out his situation, including his level and his gains, and that he had arrived on a planet that would provide him with the resources that would let him grow into power. He thought of promising his previous colleagues that he would try his best to rescue them once he became powerful.
The problem was, Flinx didn’t know how long before he could achieve that goal, and there might come a time when one of the Earthlings would betray them and let them know that a slave managed to escape into another world. So the only thing he did was pretend to be one of them. Since the slaves were scattered in the rest area and the first floor of the new dungeon, they wouldn’t know if someone was actually there with them.
Flinx knew that even if the wizards learned that he escaped to another world, there was little chance that they would go after him. He knew that there would be no information about the planet that he stumbled into from that wizard’s room, since the nutjob attackers from before probably destroyed that place.
Flinx also knew that the wizard already realized the potential of the power of the system of the Earthlings, and if somebody did escape, they would receive retaliation, so the only thing that Flinx thought would happen was for the wizards to kill all of the Earthlings and try to find a new source of slaves on a new planet.
At the very least, Flinx now had an urgent goal. To level up as fast as he could, so he could rescue his former colleagues and finally destroy that wizard organization that enslaved them.
He first planned his next steps. Flinx would go to the Adventurer’s Guild the next day to sign up, then he would go to the nearby forest and practice casting his spells. He needed to learn combat experience so he wouldn’t stumble the moment he encountered enemies. He also needed to understand the information from the guild about what resources he could take from the monsters to earn coins because he knew that sooner or later, he would need them to have powerful gears.
Flinx's blood started boiling, and he would have gone into the guild immediately, but due to the fact that it was nighttime, he had an agonizing few hours to wait before he could start implementing his plans. So the only thing he did was review the spells that were available to him and check which spells could greatly assist him in increasing his level as fast as possible.
Flinx thought about his reaction when he learned that a few people from Earth had survived. How he pathetically cried and vowed that he would save them. First off, he wasn’t close to any of them. He made sure of that as per everyone’s advice, since one never knew when a person would still be there the next day. The wizards were incredibly cruel and would kill anyone they fancied killing.
Even though he wasn’t close to any of the Earthlings personally, the internet allowed each one of them to befriend each other. Flinx might not have been close to Tom, Dick, or Harry, but he had a deep conversation about games with HornyDick101. He talked about dirty jokes with Ruminescence13. He talked about books with GentleSoul07. That meant that even if he had tried his best not to get close to anyone, a lot of them were friends. Friends who would never admit that they were friends because of the situation they were in.
There was even a rule in the forums that the Earthlings’ nicknames that they were using to talk to each other needed to be changed every week to avoid creating solid relationships because, according to many of them, learning that your friends were constantly being killed would only cause mental instability. He didn’t know if that was true, but since everyone was doing it, he also changed his nickname every week so he could remain in the forums.
