With Every Good Fight, Starts With an Insult
It had been the sixth small jar of wine before Gu Mingyu noticed two people had been passing by on the street. And what had been even more curious was the familiar white robes, with the blue tassel in hairs on both of them.
They were from the Baihe Sect. The same sect that excepted Su Qingqing despite her having a Ninth Grade Cultivation Talent21 and rejecting his Shizun because she was nothing more than a substitute that coveted a position she shouldn’t have dreamed of in the first place.
Such useless bastards, he should cut them down before Su Qingqing gets the chance to rise and ensure all the resources go to his Shizun and make sure—
“Hey, you!” A voice shouted from below, “Do you know which way to the closest and most expensive inn? Most of these inns are nothing but filled with Demons, Spirits and half-beings who shouldn’t exist in the first place!”
“With such a dirty mouth, do you fuck your mother with it?”
“Y-You!--”
“Shimei22.” A calmer voice interjected, “There is no reason to be rude, especially with the orders that Shizun specifically gave. If we wish to complete the task given then you must behave and be respectful.”
“Hmph.” She replied, “It seems useless to begin with. Negotiating with a shameless, cut-throat Old Monster who has the galls to disguise herself as a beautiful young woman, I doubt she is even a fifth more beautiful than me.”
Gu Mingyu snorted, “More like a peacock comparing itself to the beauty of a Phoenix itself.”
“Excuse me, Sir. Do you happen to know a decent inn around here?”
“No.” Gu Mingyu replied, “No Inn in Yinghua City would allow disciples of Baihe Sect to reside inside, especially not after what that shameless sect leader did over twenty years ago.”
“W-What nonsense are you talking about? Our Sect Leader didn’t do anything shameless! Don’t be spitting blood where it doesn’t belong.”
“Ha, I was there.” Gu Mingyu said, “So don’t accuse me of spitting blood lightly. In the background drinking of course while Xiao Zhu was being bodyguard since she had yet to get her promotion. If I remember correctly the Sect Leader, that shameless old bastard had promised the City Lord to be married in exchange for a First-Grade Pure Pill from her collection. It was supposed to be a marriage of agreement and then eventual love.”
“Who would’ve known that the Sect Leader of the Baihe Sect didn’t keep his word? He snatched the pill, sliced across the City Lord’s face and made her have such an ugly scar that till this day no one could ever cure, and from that day on, Baihe Sect members were banned within Yinghua City. But in the end, I knew he wouldn’t keep his word, after all his name is really fitting for his personality.”
“Otherwise, who would dare to name their child, Wuchi23. If they didn’t know what type of person, they would end up becoming?”
“Y-You! You dare slander my dad! You good for nothing beast! I will end your life before you dare to say another slanderous thing!”
“Oh, would you look at that? The Shameless Daughter comes out to speak in defense of her even more shameless Dad, goodness I can only how even more shameless your mother was to marry someone who doesn’t even care about face?”
“I will kill you!!!”
Unsheathing her sword without much hesitation and lifting herself into the air with all the elegant grace a maiden should’ve had. Unfortunately for her, Gu Mingyu didn’t care for the long-winded theatrics that came with such attacks and threw one of the wine jars right at her face.
And when it shattered, pieces of it went flying over and causing her to fall right to the ground due to being unbalanced. And when she had fallen down, it messed with her focus causing her to cough up blood, into the air like a fountain.
A terrifying sight to behold for sure, especially if it’s not very logical in nature. But would be logical in nature inside a novel that didn’t have much grasp for common sense to begin with.
*Cough Cough Brain-dead romances.*
“Would you look at that? The ground is suddenly spitting out red, the omen is a coming, and the world is doomed to end.” Gu Mingyu snorted with his voice becoming more and more sarcastic, “We must gather the Orthodox sects together, unite an Alliance and purge this ill-omen before they one day grow into an existence that would bring an end to us all….”
And when Gu Mingyu looked closely again, he noticed the young man with white robes, and a blue tassel within his hair aimed the sword right at his neck, right under the chin. With Light Blue eyes, Gu Mingyu had realized who this person was.
He was Xiao Bendan24.
The disciple he had only for not even five years before dying due a betrayal of beliefs, but as for his real name, it had escaped him—
“I am Weifeng25, the Eldest Disciple of the Sect Leader of the Baihe Sect.” Xiao Bendan proclaimed, “And if you would do me the honor of exchanging swords with me, then I would allow the insult regarding my Shizun to pass. For I know that my Shizun is flawed but he was the one who saved my life back then, when no one else would.”
“Honor.” Gu Mingyu let out a small sigh, “Honor is not something I am familiar with but I do know one thing. The Honorable tend to die young, die foolish and especially the most Honorable Ones always end up becoming martyrs for others to follow in sway.”
“It is one view of it.”
“Perhaps so, but you, Xiao Bendan, should only hope to take that Honor and shove it up your hole and become something new and something different. Otherwise your Honor shall cause you to die by my hands.”
“Then it would be my honor to do so.”
He snorted, “You really are an idiot.”
Gu Mingyu had forgotten how competent that Xiao Bendan was, or how sloppy his skills were in the state of drunkenness. Then again, he was wounded, his cultivation foundation was solid but not long in human form, technically it’s only been thirty-two years. But knowing Xiao Bendan he wouldn’t even take advantage of such a messy state and fight honorably like he believed himself to be and taught as such.
“You are holding back.” Xiao Bendan accused with such certainty in his voice, “You are holding back in an attempt to lessen the chance of myself getting the upper hand or are you toying with me?”
“You know if I am going to be honest, it’s because I am drunk more than anything else.” Gu Mingyu remarked, “And in truth, I had no intentions of killing you. You seem like a decent kid in a world of vipers, wolves and Cunning old foxes scheming in pretense to stake their claim on the world.”
“If I am good then how do you describe yourself?”
“Chaos incarnate with a dash of Gay.”
“G-Gay?”
“Cut Sleeve.” Gu Mingyu explained, “Didn’t you notice one of my sleeves being cut? Of course it was a result of a slicing before but I thought it was rather obvious—”

“Obvious about what exactly?”
Gu Mingyu sighed while unsummoning his sword, putting down the small jar of wine. “The fight’s over, Brat.”
“O-Over?”
“Hong Zhu is likely dealing with your Shimei who is passed out on the ground.” Gu Mingyu replied, “You did pretty decent for someone whose moves are rather predictable.”
Xiao Bendan's head titled slightly, “Predictable?”
“I’ll tell you next time we meet.” Gu Mingyu said, “And if you ever decide that Baihe Sect is a load of garbage and useless beyond compare because they decided they no longer needed a person like you, I don’t mind getting a disciple like you even if you are a silly idiot who lacks the brains for most stuff.”
Gu Mingyu had hopped off the roof heading back to the inn room.
“W-Was that a complement?”
Zhao Yuwen closed the fan, and lightly tapped it on his right palm. “I do believe it was a compliment. Goodness, you must be something else if you managed to impress someone as notorious as him.”
“Are you jealous?” Weifeng inquired, “Is that why you smell like vinegar?”
“No.” Zhao Yuwen replied after a moment of slight irritation, “No, I am not jealous at all.”
“Your lip twitching slightly in the corner says otherwise.”
“Y-You—”
“I have no interest in him, I prefer cute little milk dogs.” Weifeng interjected, “Like the one you have down there that keeps following you around, he seems rather adorable, especially if one wanted to tease.”
Is this really the reputable and renowned and very Honorable Weifeng? Zhao Yuwen thought, has his reputation gone for the dogs or were their eyes so blind by his renownedness they didn’t even bother to check if it’s the same person!
Weifeng had decided to hop off the roof, from what Zhao Yuwen could observe, intending to introduce himself to Zhong Quan which had implications of his own. So Zhao Yuwen decided in the kindness of his heart, (with little heart he had to begin with) had left his ever loyal servant alone and decided to confirm the theory that was forming in his own head.
It had been another twenty minutes when Zhao Yuwen arrived back at the Inn and specifically the room he rented and noticed the moment he stepped inside it smelt like fresh blood. A scent he couldn’t ever forget since the day his Honorable Mother, Daughter of the Grand Teacher had died an unforgivable death.
It even haunted his dreams; on the rare nights he could actually sleep.
As he stepped further, he noticed the pile of bloodied bandages, laying about on the floor before slowly raising his head to notice the same beautiful man he had seen before biting down on a cheap white cloth, folded twice, as he was applying medicine on his wound.
This was his Xiao Huli, in human form. A legendary Fox Demon who had been rumored to have slaughtered thousands and refused to allow anyone see his true form, had turned out to be so—cute.
His Xiao Huli pulled out the cloth out of his mouth, as his right eye twitched. “Zhao Yuwen, did you just think in those thoughts of yours that I am cute?”
“No.” Zhao Yuwen denied, “I didn’t think you were cute at all.”
His Xiao Huli snorted. “You can lie well to others but not to me, I knew from the moment you dared to try and pet me you deemed me cute. I should’ve known encountering such a trouble like you must’ve been a sin coming back to bite me in the back from my past life.”
Xiao Huli considers me a trouble? Zhao Yuwen thought, And how does he know I am lying? We have only known each other for barely a day!
“Are you going to keep staring at my chest? I should’ve known stripping myself in front of you was even going to be worse.”
Zhao Yuwen coughed. “I-I wasn’t staring at your chest. I was inspecting the wound, and was curious if you wanted help with the wound?”
“If I didn’t know you were human, I would’ve assumed you were one of the Wolf demons, patiently waiting by my side until I let my guard down to eat me whole.”
“Are all Wolf demons like this?”
“Only the one I know.” His Xiao Huli closed the medicine bottle leaning over slightly to place it on the small table near the bed, “Shen Zhuwei. That idiot fell in love with a Mountain God of all things, now he has to wait decades if he is lucky for the reincarnation to pop up and then go through that heart-breaking cycle until the final reincarnation solidifies and he can get his happy ending.”
“That sounds rather romantic.” Zhao Yuwen replied while grabbing the fresh bandages to wrap around his Xiao Huli, “In fact I wouldn’t mind something like that to be a tale to witness if I am ever fournate for it.”
“Romantic, my ass.” His Xiao Huli scoffed, “More like Angst, Longing, tribulation and then....at the final end of it, will there be fluff.”
“Your choice of words are interesting to say the least.”
“Oh, no, no! You are not getting any ideas from those words.” Xiao Huli proclaimed, “You listen to me Zhao Yuwen, if there is even a hint of you trying such tactics on me, I will cut off your cock and make sure the family bloodline dies with you.”
Zhao Yuwen felt a tiny bit annoyed at the threat made without much of a second thought and decided to reply with.
“And where did you get such a thought in the first place? Do I really give off such an impression?”
“Yes, you little shit.” His Xiao Huli said, “I know you. You either pretend to be cold to those who you want to make an impression on, you're a polite gentlemen in front of those you wish to make allies with, you act like a ruthless cut-throat heartless bastard in front of those you wish to end or have already have and worse of all, in front of me you either act like a complete airhead who has the fortune of being lucky or a cheeky young man whose secretly lusting for my body.”
“If I didn’t know this was your true face and not a disguise, I would’ve assumed you were a Skin-Changer and changed skins depending on the circumstances.”
In all the years I have lived, Zhao Yuwen thought, I have never encountered a second individual who could see me so thoroughly and was even scarier is that—I think I find it even more adorable than impressive.
“And another thing, just because you helped treat my wounds and aiding me in changing them again doesn’t mean I feel even the slightest bit of compassion for you.” His Xiao Huli added, “The moment I get the chance, I will stab you right into the heart and end your life once for all if you cross my bottom line.”
“Your bottom line?”
“If you ever purpose dual cultivation, I am the one who shall be on top and not you. I refuse to bottom such a skinny twig like you who, despite having a decent cock size, is not fitting for someone who is tall, powerful, ruthless and a thousand times more beautiful than you!”
. . .
. . .
. . .
Zhao Yuwen's eyes blinked for a few moments before bursting out into laughter, as noticing his Xiao Huli cheeks flushed with anger and slight embarrassment.
“W-What’s so funny?”
“That is your bottom line?”
“Amongst other things!”
“Alright.” Zhao Yuwen replied after composing himself, “But don’t you want to explain what dual cultivation is first before discussing who would be on the top and who would be on the bottom?”
“You don’t know what Dual Cultivation is? You live in a world full of cultivators, demons, spirits, Immortals, and even different realms and no one bothered to explain it to you? You who has such potential to thrice ascend?”
Did his Xiao Huli think he had such great potential or was merely spitting out words while slowly becoming less and less sober? Zhao Yuwen was unaware of the truth, but this is likely the longest he could ever get his Xiao Huli talk without much cornering.
(He would have to see in the future if this is the best method though)
“No one did.” Zhao Yuwen admitted, “No one where I lived had the potential to become Cultivators, let alone the desire for it.”
“Figures.” His Xiao Huli sighed, “The Mortal Realm has always been this way, either snatching the talents for themselves, or removing the roots before they can have a single inch worthiness of growing.”
“How is the Mortal Realm compared to the Demon Realm?”
“The Demon Realm is divided into Four Regions. Each with their own Demon Lord, personally I find the Northen Demon Lord the most tolerable. He is straightforward in his speech and has no interest in politics out of his region.”
“Was there a King?”
“Of course there was, but then he was killed by the Sect Leader of the Lantian26 Sect. Though given the rumors, I imagine once upon a time they were lovers, but I think their relationship ended when their daughter had died.”
“So, no heir.” Zhao Yuwen muttered under his breath, “Unless she produced one herself before dying…”
“Enough about that, I drank so much in such a short amount of time.” His Xiao Huli grumbled, “My tolerance has truly gotten worse since ending up in this state, I am going to bed now. You can do whatever you want, but if you try and cuddle me, I will bite your hand off.”
When His Xiao Huli fell asleep, Zhao Yuwen placed down the fan. Undid his outer robe, and slipped his shoes off, and slowly slipped himself into the bed, posttensioning right close to his Xiao Huli, and fallen asleep.
A quiet and peaceful sleep he had not gotten in years.
In this World Cultivation Talent is divided into Nine Grades, witth Ninth Grade as the worst. The trash of the trash(You understand?)
Then there is Eight-Grade
Seventh Grade
Sixth Grade
Fifth Grade
Fourth Grade
Third Grade
Second Grade
And First Grade. To encounter a First-Grade Talent is often even more rairer than witnessing a Cultivator Ascending. And if you encounter someone with a First-Grade Cultivation Talent, one should run with their life and never fight head on, it’s a foolish, foolish thought.
