And just like that—before I even realized it—she was dead. I started shaking her, first slowly then rapidly.
“ASHA NO!!!” I screamed, tears flowing wildly.
I kept shaking her, hoping for some response. The mayor started to walk up to me but I didn’t back away. Instead I twisted his arm, making him drop the gun. I then grabbed it and aimed it at him.
“T-Torshik… now let’s just be reasonable here…”
“There is no more need for reason. Not when you never needed one.” I pointed it towards his head.
“Look I-I-I know you’re hurt… b-but in all fairness… that bullet was meant for you… i-it’s your fault she died!”
That made me pause but I shook it off. My hand was about to pull the trigger until I heard groaning behind me.
“Ughh… great. Now I’ll have headaches for a week…” It was Ashathink.
“Asha…” the words trembled from my mouth.
“Yeah don’t worry Torshik I’m immort-” she paused when she saw the scene.
The gun in my hand shook and the tears in my eyes stopped flowing.
“Torshik… What are you doing…?” asked Ashathink slowly and carefully.
I dropped the gun and bolted out of there. I could hear Asha yelling and running behind me. I then bumped into someone—it was Shade.
“Woah bud… what’s wrong…”
“Get away from me Shade!!” I screamed, “I don’t want to hurt you…”
“Hurt me… what do you mean…?”
Just then Ashathink teleported there.
“Torshik just calm down-”
“No! I almost killed the mayor! He would have died!” I paused, starting to sob, “I really am a freak.”
Ashathink ran to my side and hugged me.

“You are not a freak, Torshik. You’re-”
“What? A brilliant kid? A brilliant kid who almost killed someone? Who stabbed someone in their leg?”
“Maybe you did overreact with the mayor but you’re still just a kid. You’re going to make both good and bad choices.”
“I’m almost a teenager, I should know better.”
“Even grown ups don’t make good choices. You’ve seen that with the mayor. Heck, even me. I’m over 2,000 years old yet I still didn’t understand I couldn’t force you into my culture.” Ashathink said.
“I know but…” I couldn’t think of an excuse.
Shade blew on my face, “You’re still our Torshik, kiddo. You’ll always be our Torshik.”
I smiled and hugged them both.
Knicatru then walked over, “Okay so I think I took out enough guards that they won’t bother us for- wait what happened?”
“I almost killed the mayor out of impulsiveness.” I told Knicatru.
“I told you to give him a normal childhood.” Knicatru sighed.
The mayor then appeared, looking furious. Ashathink tapped her spear and he was cuffed both in his feet and hands.
“I think we’ve had enough of you for now.” said Ashathink, annoyed.
The mayor was about to say something but Ashathink muffled it.
“So what do we do with him?” I asked.
“We should probably turn him over to the police.” replied Shade.
“I’ll call them.” said Knicatru, walking over to a nearby telephone.
“Hey Shade…? Did the process of obtaining superspeed hurt when you got it?” I asked.
“Uhh for a bit my head hurt, then I had to go through a training to adjust my legs to the speed, why do you ask?”
“Well… they put me in the room where they’d do it…” I said hesitantly.
Shade’s eyes widened, “What?! But you're not 18! That could have killed you!”
“It would have killed him?!” asked Ashathink.
Knicatru leaned closer to the telephone, trying to avoid the conversation.
“No wonder you wanted to kill him… he’s out of his mind!”
The mayor let out a muffled noise.
“Let’s not forget he put a gun to his head! He even tried to shoot him before I stepped in instead!” Ashathink added.
“Yeah… I guess the mayor doesn’t really like me that much, huh?” I said half-jokingly.
“Such events deserve a movie and some pizza! Let’s go home.” said Shade.
My face lit up. Ashathink looked confused, “What’s pizza?”
“Oh! We forgot to teach her about pizza! Now we gotta get some!” I told Shade
“Yep! I’ll order it when we get home.”
